Bronchiectasis after mycoplasma pneumonia.

چکیده
Infection by Mycoplasma pneumoniae is common and usually mild. A few cases are severe and deaths have occurred. Long term sequelae are rare. We describe the case of a 23 year old man who now has cylindrical bronchiectasis. His symptoms date from an episode of mycoplasma pneumonia, complicated by Stevens-Johnson syndrone, seven years previously. He is also unusual in that he has had a second episode of illness probably caused by M pneumoniae.

BACKGROUND The clinical course of Mycoplasma pneumonia is typically mild and self-limited. There are, however, several case reports of severe complication following this illness with considerable morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to investigate, using high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), the long-term pulmonary structural abnormalities after Mycoplasma pneumo...

متن کاملAssociation of a Mycoplasma-like agent with chronic pneumonia and bronchiectasis in the rat.
In a previous communication (2), the fine structure and location of a mycoplasma-like agent in experimentally infected mouse lung was described. The agent which caused a chronic pneumonia in mice was originally derived from laboratory rats with naturally acquired chronic pneumonia, as defined by J. R. M. Innes et al. (3), and it was found to be indistinguishable from the grey lung agent (1). Al...
